Support Groups

Make sure to watch for the What's Happening pages in the Lakeshore Advance and Forest Standard newspapers on the last Wednesday and Thursday of each month for all upcoming programs at the centre. If your non-profit group wants to put upcoming event information on this page please contact Cindy Maxfield at (519) 238-1556, extension 6 by the third Wednesday of the month prior to the month it will be published.

Blessings Community Store and Food Bank
Blessings Community Store and Food Bank is located on Main Street In Zurich. Contact person is Norma Grainger at 519-236-4376. They accept donations of clothing, small appliances, food and furniture. These items are then re-sold at affordable prices to cover over head costs. Blessings also operates a food bank with fresh and canned goods available at no cost to the community each week. Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre partners with the Food Bank by providing them with fresh produce, in conjunction with the Huron Good Food Box. Please contact Norma for more information.

Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support
The Alzheimer Society of Huron offers group support meetings in the Boardroom of the Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre, the first Monday of every month at 7:00 pm. Family members who are caring for an individual suffering from Alzheimer’s or Dementia are encouraged to attend. Please call 1-800-561-5012 for more information.

Bereavement Group
The V.O.N. Perth Huron. offers a Bereavement Support Group once a year at the Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre for individuals who have lost a loved one. This 10 week program helps individuals cope with their loss. A Holiday Bereavement support program is also offered by the Health Centre staff each year in December or January. Meals on Wheels
Lambton Elderly Outreach offers this program on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays in Grand Bend and surrounding area. Get a hot delicious, nutritious meal at an affordable price delivered right to your door. For more information, please call 1- 800-265-0203. Lambton Elderly Outreach and Town and Country Support Services from Exeter offer transportation.

Stop Smoking
This group program runs once a week for 4 weeks and teaches participants coping strategies to quit smoking. It is offered twice yearly depending on interest and is facilitated by Cindy Maxfield, Health Promoter. For information about the next session, please call Cindy Maxfield at (519) 238-1556, extension 231. Individual counselling is also available on a limited basis. You can quit!

Health Education Evening Programs
The Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre plans educational evenings throughout the year. In the fall and spring we offer' Well Women' evenings with speakers who discuss women’s issues. Pap and breast exams are available for all women wishing to have them. Topics include stress, healthy lifestyle, safety, disease prevention and new research.
