As Medical Office Assistants (MOAs), we work closely with Health Care Practitioners. Our goal is to provide excellent communications and office skills to help coordinate quality patient care at Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre.
We are responsible for a variety of administrative, clerical and clinical duties necessary to provide our patients/clients with a smooth, effective, and pleasant visit.
We work together as inner-office multi-disciplinarians. Some of our acquired skills include:
Some of our Medical Office Assistants are also Certified Phlebotomists. They demonstrate competence in clinical procedures within medical guidelines and standards and Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre policies.
We are trained in CPR and triage. We continually upgrade our acquired skills in order to provide our patients and Health Care Providers with quality care and service.
As with all employees of GBA CHC, the confidentiality of our patients is always of the utmost importance. Policy/procedure to protect patient information is strictly adhered to.
Blood Work
Here at the Grand Bend Area Community Health Center (GBACHC) we are pleased to offer Phlebotomy, or blood taking services, by appointment. We do not have a laboratory but we do have our samples picked up twice daily by a courier at approximately 12 pm and 6 pm. They are taken to LifeLabs for testing.
Please try to wear loose or short sleeves when coming to get your blood drawn to allow easy access to your arms.
If you require fasting blood work, we will try to book you the earliest available appointment. You should have only water to drink and no food at all for 12 hours before your appointment. You may take your medication as usual with water.
Occasionally there are some blood tests we are unable to draw because they require special handling. If you have a blood requisition from another Physician you may want to check this with us when booking your appointment. If we are unable to do the tests required, the nearest laboratory would be at South Huron Hospital in Exeter. They are open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 10 am, no appointment necessary.
Even if you are not a patient of GBACHC we may still be able to assist you in having your blood work drawn. As we are not a laboratory, we will need an authorization form signed by the ordering physician to draw your blood on their behalf. We will not receive or deal with the results of your blood work; instead the results will go directly from the laboratory to your ordering physician. You need only provide us with your doctor's name and fax number and we will send the form to your doctor. Once we have that completed form on file you may book an appointment to have your blood drawn. The one authorization form will be sufficient if repeated blood draws are necessary for that physician.
If you have any questions pertaining to your blood work please feel free to call us. We Can Help!
