Chronic Pain Management
and Support Group

The Chronic Pain Management and Support Group is a nine-week program offered twice a year and is designed to assist individuals who are suffering from persistent chronic pain. There are no easy answers for people with chronic pain. Coping with chronic pain requires patience, hard work and a willingness to change how things are done. It requires understanding on the part of the family as well as the involvement of skilled allied health professions.

The GOALS of the Chronic Pain Management and Support Group are five- fold:

1) To provide education regarding chronic pain and disability management

2) To learn relaxation strategies and stress management techniques

3) To improve physical activity and fitness through gentle exercise

4) To improve emotional and behavioural functioning, and

5) To enjoy a safe environment with others who experience chronic pain.

Facilitated by Lynda Wilkey Nurse Practitioner and Mickey Gurbin Medical Social Worker, participants achieve these goals by learning and implementing a variety of self-management strategies as they progress through the program.

Referrals are accepted from family physicians or by self-referral within our catchment area.
